Advisory | Slocum Gate Access, Morning Commute

MCAS Cherry Point leadership has decided to extend morning inbound access at Slocum Gate to help reduce traffic congestion at the installation’s entry points.

Slocum Gate will be open for inbound traffic only from 5:30 to 9 a.m. on weekdays, throughout the Cunningham Boulevard construction project, which is expected to continue until approximately May. During these hours, all outbound installation traffic should use the Main Gate exit.

Command officials are taking every possible step to minimize delays without compromising safety and security. We ask the community to help by making a few adjustments to ensure safe and efficient access to the installation. Please consider the following recommendations:

• Come earlier and be prepared for delays. Plan to arrive earlier than usual at access control points, as longer lines are expected.

• Share the road. Use both lanes when approaching Slocum Gate and allow vehicles to merge without blocking or restricting the other lane. If you are entering Slocum Road from the westbound Highway 70 ramp, use the full right lane before merging left, especially if a line has already formed. Please remember not to block intersections, as this can greatly worsen congestion.

• Have all IDs ready. All passengers are required to present identification, as the Trusted Traveler Program remains suspended.

• Lower passenger windows. This allows sentries or guards to view all areas of the vehicle. Lowering all windows a few seconds in advance can help expedite the process.

Thank you for your patience and flexibility during this period of increased vigilance. While heightened security measures may be inconvenient, they are essential to our safety. Your cooperation is vital in protecting our installation and everyone who lives and works here. We appreciate your ongoing support and understanding.
