MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. -- Gunnery Sgt. Brian P. Faulk was named the Carteret County Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee Service Person of the Quarter during a ceremony at the Elks Lodge in Morehead City Friday.
The accident investigative chief with the Provost Marshal’s Office earned the award for his continuing efforts beyond his required duties.
“It feels really good to be presented an award and recognized for your work especially when you aren’t expecting it,” said Faulk.
Faulk’s services have benefited the Cherry Point community by keeping them safe and saving the installation thousands of dollars.
“Many people don’t see most of the work we do,” said Faulk. “We do a lot for the community, and it just feels really great to be acknowledged in this way.”
Faulk has been successful in his Marine Corps career by always striving to be better and to do better.
“He is a great all-around leader,” said Master Gunnery Sgt. John D. Wade, the provost sergeant with the Provost Marshal’s Office. “He is truly concerned about his job and serving. He really doesn’t lack anything.”
Faulk’s list of accomplishments includes coordinating, executing and participating in more than 50 special events on base, coordinating with resident officer in charge of construction for several roadway and construction projects to ensure safe use of the roadways and pedestrian areas, developing and incorporating the Cherry Point Drivers Information Exchange Slip, repairing Department of Transportation signs, working alongside the facilities maintenance department to help dispatchers aboard the installation reduce the time to dispatch and arrive at service calls, investigating traffic accidents and routinely assisting with watches and operations when there is a high volume of service calls.
The community showed their appreciation by presenting Faulk with a gift bag full of donated items including gift certificates, products, event tickets and a letter of recognition.
“The Chamber of Commerce and the Military Affairs Committee are honored to be able to show our appreciation for our service members,” said David M. Heath, chairman of the Military Affairs Committee. “We see the sacrifices they make and see that they go beyond their duties to assist in community outreach, and we feel it is very important to honor those who go above and beyond with something tangible.”
Many of Faulk’s leadership attended the luncheon to show their appreciation for his efforts and the hard work he continually puts out for his Marines and his unit.
“It is the best feeling in the world to get to honor someone who always works so hard,” said Wade. “It is great to show everyone else the work he does and to show him off in a public setting.”
