From hosting the Super Guppy to a visit from the 38th Commandant of the Marine Corps, Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, North Carolina, had an eventful year. It saw the turnover of its command leaders. Its community members worked hard and played hard in a multitude of training exercises and family events. It highlighted its hardworking Marines, Sailors and civilians and showed off some of what takes place behind the scenes of accomplishing the mission. Take a look back at some notable events of the year and tell us which one was your favorite.

Marines stationed at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, North Carolina, participated in the Regional East Marksmanship Competition at Marine Corps Base (MCB) Quantico, Virginia. The Marines trained on the Cherry Point pistol and rifle range for two weeks before traveling to MCB Quantico. During the competition, the Marines were evaluated on their speed, efficiency, and accuracy with the service pistol and rifle. Those who qualified at the Regional East Marksmanship Competition would move on to complete at the final Marine Corps Marksmanship Competition where the best participants would place and receive awards and medals. Sgt. Sean Cain was the only Marine from Cherry Point to place and medal in both competitions. Any Marines who are interested in competing should contact the MCAS Cherry Point team lead, Sgt. Sailors with Special Boat Team (SBT) Twenty-Two, Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewman (SWCC) conducted a dynamic live-fire at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point Naval Boat Docks, 21 Feb, 2019. Sailors with SBT 22 increased their proficiency whilst utilizing the 11 meter rigid inflatable boat (RIB). SBT 22 favors the RIB’s capability to provide a constant rate of fire while attaining high-speeds and delivering maneuverability. The RIB contains two weapon stations that are capable of mounting either medium or heavy machine guns. Sailors with SBT 22 find it beneficial to train aboard Cherry Point due to the dynamic weather conditions that provide the team with diverse challenges. (U.S. Marine Corps Video by Sgt. Cody H. Marine Corps Community Services Cherry Point hosted the Battle Challenge on Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., March 23-24, 2017. Teams assigned to various units on MCAS Cherry Point signed up to compete against each other in the timed event. The challenge included an obstacle course where competitors had to climb a cargo net, jump over a seven-foot wall, negotiate monkey-bars, carry 45 pound jugs, and drag a 200 pound dummy to the finish line. The Sports Car Club of America has teamed up with the Single Marine Program to rally up car lovers for the Autocross at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, Mar. 5-6, 2016. The SCCA and SMP bring together automobile enthusiasts to drive vehicles to the limit in a safe environment which teaches them control and safety measures.
