MACS-2 Tests New AN/TPS-80 Aviation Radar System During Training Exercise

Marines assigned to Marine Air Control Squadron 2 test the capabilities of the new AN/TPS-80 aviation radar system during a field exercise at Marine Corps Outlying Field Atlantic, August 1, 2017. There are only two AN/TPS-80 [G/ATOR] radar systems actively used within the United States Marine Corps today. The new system produces 3D radar imagery and has improved tracking and detection capabilities. The G/ATOR can be deployed and operational within 30 minutes of assembly, besting the previous system by over an hour. U.S. Marines with 1st Marine Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit carry out a simulated raid at Marine Corps Outlying Field Oak Grove. Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point’s unique training area allowed the Expeditionary Operations Training Group to conduct an evaluation on the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s ability to execute assigned mission essential tasks to prepare and support geographical combatant commanders. Marine Aircraft Group 26 held their first Kids Corps event to give the kids of MAG-26 an opportunity to see what their parents do, in the Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 162 hangar aboard Marine Corps Air Station New River, N.C., June 4, 2016. Kids were split-up into squads and were afforded the opportunity to compete against each other in a modified Combat Fitness Test, the bouncy house obstacle course and witness an MV-22 Osprey fly.
