From hosting the Super Guppy to a visit from the 38th Commandant of the Marine Corps, Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, North Carolina, had an eventful year. It saw the turnover of its command leaders. Its community members worked hard and played hard in a multitude of training exercises and family events. It highlighted its hardworking Marines, Sailors and civilians and showed off some of what takes place behind the scenes of accomplishing the mission. The Single Marine Program and the Sports Car Club of America hosted an autocross event on Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point (MCAS), North Carolina, Sept. 21-22, 2019. Autocross is a car controlled event where the winner is based off of the fastest time of the day. Service members participate in the American Super Camp motorcycle training class at Marine Corps Air Station New River, North Carolina, May 9-10, 2019. American Super Camp is a riding skills and balance improvement course intended for all levels of motorcycle riders. The MCAS Cherry Point Motorcycle Mentorship Program facilitated the training for service members to increase motorcycle safety and develop their skills as motorcyclists. The Single Marine Program (SMP) is currently finishing up their annual Days of Service event, April 22-28, 2019. The event allows Marines, Sailors and civilians to come together and give back to the community by volunteering at numerous events, both on base and in the local community. Volunteer opportunities include, but are not limited to, building for Habitat for Humanity, assisting at animal shelters, beach clean-ups and veteran visits. SMP participants are encouraged to build partnerships with local community organizations to create opportunities and strengthen bonds between Marines, Sailors and local civilians. All commands and personnel are invited to participate, with the emphasis on allowing single Marines and Sailors the opportunity to contribute to this initiative. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Cpl.
