From hosting the Super Guppy to a visit from the 38th Commandant of the Marine Corps, Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, North Carolina, had an eventful year. It saw the turnover of its command leaders. Its community members worked hard and played hard in a multitude of training exercises and family events. It highlighted its hardworking Marines, Sailors and civilians and showed off some of what takes place behind the scenes of accomplishing the mission. Take a look back at some notable events of the year and tell us which one was your favorite.

The Marine Corps’ history runs deep, 244 years deep to be exact. Col. Mikel Huber, the commanding officer of Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, would like to wish all Marines a happy birthday. Prepare your uniforms, prepare your Marines, prepare your families, and let’s get after it!

As we continue to highlight the Corporal’s Leadership Course, today we will focus on the Marines who help shape these corporals into the small unit leaders you see upon their graduation from the course. The Corporal’s Leadership Course Instructor’s lead from the front and set the example for the students. They are with the students all day long from physical training in the morning to class room instruction; from drill to uniform inspections; and from evaluations to graduation. Corporals Leadership Course is an essential stepping stone for newly promoted corporals. This course focuses on all of the fundamentals of making remarkable young leaders. It gives corporals the chance to explore different leadership styles to help understand the leader that they want to become. They are tested throughout the course on common knowledge, physical fitness and ethical decision making.

September 11, 2001. On this day we will forever celebrate the bravery of the first responders; and grieve for the fallen citizens of this great country. Take a minute to remember the day America was attacked. Remember those who lost their lives in this shocking act of terrorism; those who fought in the ensuing conflicts; and those who never made it home. Remember those towers that once stood watch over the largest city in America. Today we remember.
