From hosting the Super Guppy to a visit from the 38th Commandant of the Marine Corps, Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, North Carolina, had an eventful year. It saw the turnover of its command leaders. Its community members worked hard and played hard in a multitude of training exercises and family events. It highlighted its hardworking Marines, Sailors and civilians and showed off some of what takes place behind the scenes of accomplishing the mission. Take a look back at some notable events of the year and tell us which one was your favorite.

17 groups of 10 Marines and Sailors raced against time to place in the All-Terrain Unit Competition at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, North Carolina, 25 Oct., 2019. The All-Terrain Unit Competition is a great way for individual units to build comradery and team work. The winning teams won money for their unit’s recreation fund with third place receiving $200, second place receiving $400 and the first place team winning $600. The competition is hosted annually on the air station by Cherry Point Marine Corps Community Services. The winning team, “Bad Company,” was comprised of Marines from Force Readiness Center-East and Center of Naval Aviation Technical Training.

Sgt. Maj. Paul McElearney, Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point sergeant major, and HMCM Jason Juarez, Naval Health Clinic Cherry Point (NHCCP) command master chief, announce the base’s annual tug-of-war competition in support of the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) on Oct. 18, 2019. Last year the NHCCP beat Headquarters & Headquarters Squadron in the last round of the competition. The CFC is a charity campaign, with almost 200 campaigns throughout the country and overseas raising millions of dollars each year. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Sgt. Christian J. On the Job: Religious Program Specialist -------------------------------------------- There are a plethora of different military occupational specialties in the Marine Corps; different jobs and skill sets that keep the Marine Corps mission ready. Today we dive into the religious program specialist MOS and take you “On the Job." Our Chaplains don’t work alone. The religious program specialists serve God and country alongside our Chaplains in support of Marines and Sailors well-being stateside, overseas and forward deployed. Quick, someone call a Corpsman! U.S. Navy Corpsmen compete in a Corpsman Competition at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, June 14, 2019. The competition was held by corpsmen assigned to Naval Health Clinic Cherry Point in lieu of a ball for the 121st corpsman birthday. The competition included nine teams of five corpsmen who completed five events that tested the Sailors’ mental and physical stamina. Events included capture the flag paintball, a 250 meter swim pulling a patient, a one mile run through rough terrain and obstacles carrying a patient, a quiz on corpsmen history and a test on clinical knowledge. After all, the Marine Corps does fall under the Department of the Navy and it would be remiss of us if we didn’t recognize all the hard work they do to help us. So today, we would like to highlight the dedicated Sailors who provide medical services to Marines on military installations around the world. Did you know the Naval Health Clinic at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, has a radiology department? That’s right, no need to try and schedule an X-ray out in town, the Corpsmen at the clinic can help you out. For National Doctor’s Day, we are going to celebrate the Navy “Docs”, or medical professionals, that have protected and treated our Marines over the years. The Medal of Honor is the highest award given to U.S. military personnel. Sailors with Special Boat Team (SBT) Twenty-Two, Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewman (SWCC) conducted a dynamic live-fire at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point Naval Boat Docks, 21 Feb, 2019. Sailors with SBT 22 increased their proficiency whilst utilizing the 11 meter rigid inflatable boat (RIB). SBT 22 favors the RIB’s capability to provide a constant rate of fire while attaining high-speeds and delivering maneuverability. The RIB contains two weapon stations that are capable of mounting either medium or heavy machine guns. Sailors with SBT 22 find it beneficial to train aboard Cherry Point due to the dynamic weather conditions that provide the team with diverse challenges. (U.S. Marine Corps Video by Sgt. Cody H.
