Marines stationed at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, North Carolina, participated in the Regional East Marksmanship Competition at Marine Corps Base (MCB) Quantico, Virginia. The Marines trained on the Cherry Point pistol and rifle range for two weeks before traveling to MCB Quantico. During the competition, the Marines were evaluated on their speed, efficiency, and accuracy with the service pistol and rifle. Those who qualified at the Regional East Marksmanship Competition would move on to complete at the final Marine Corps Marksmanship Competition where the best participants would place and receive awards and medals. Sgt. Sean Cain was the only Marine from Cherry Point to place and medal in both competitions. Any Marines who are interested in competing should contact the MCAS Cherry Point team lead, Sgt. Marine Corps marksmanship coaches assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron teach other Marines the art of marksmanship at the rifle range aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., Jan. 5, 2017. Marksmanship coaches analyze the difficulties shooters may be experiencing during dry and live-fire exercises in all phases of the Marine Corps Marksmanship Program leading up-to the qualification live-fire exercise. To become a coach, Marines must be qualified as sharpshooter or higher with the M16A4 service rifle, complete the Marine Corps Institute Course: Marine Marksman, and complete the Marksmanship Coach Course Program.
