Leaders and representatives from Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point and Blue Rock Construction broke ground for construction of a new library, Project P253 for U.S. Marines and Sailors and family stationed at MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina, Dec. 4, 2024. The event announced the beginning of construction for a state-of-the-art, 18,000-square-foot facility that is projected to be completed by late 2026. It is one of multiple projects currently underway to deliver on the commitment of providing a commensurate quality of life for service members, civilian personnel and families. Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point commanding officer, Col. Mikel R. Huber wishes patrons a happy 80 years at MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina, on May 20, 2021. Today commemorates 79 years since the commissioning of Cherry Point. This year marks 80 years since the groundbreaking of the installation. In those eight decades, MCAS Cherry Point has transformed and adapted as a premier home for the transformation and advancement of Marine Corps aviation and warfighting.

MCAS Cherry Point along with 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (2D MAW) and Navy Facilities Engineering Command broke ground for the first of three F-35 aircraft maintenance hangars. The groundbreaking ceremony is just the start of monumental changes to come, bringing the 2D MAW and MCAS Cherry Point squadrons from the World War II era into the modern day.
