Virtual Fire Prevention Week 2020

This year Fire Prevention Week is held from 4-10 October, in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire, which began 8 October 1871. During this week, the Cherry Point Fire and Emergency Services typically go out to surrounding schools to teach kids about how to stay fire safe. Due to COVID-19, the Cherry Point Fire and Emergency Services went virtual to ensure that our community continued to stay educated on how to stay safe in case of a fire in your home. For more information on fire prevention tips, contact your local Fire Department or the Cherry Point Fire and Emergency Services at (252) 466-2351.

When it comes to fire safety and fire importance, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, prides themselves in being fire safe and ready for an emergency at any moment. MCAS Cherry Point Fire and Emergency Services Training

Fighting fires and rescuing kittens from trees is probably what comes to mind when envisioning what firefighters do from day to day, but it is certainly not all. Minus the kitten, our firefighters with Cherry Point Fire & Emergency Services at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, North Carolina, answer the call to an array of emergency situations. From technical rescues, which include rescues from confined spaces and high angle structures, to water rescues, vehicle incidents, chemical leaks and spills, trapped elevators with people inside, assisting the community during and after natural disasters, providing emergency medical services, and of course structure fires and other miscellaneous fires – they’ve got us covered. With all that is required of our firefighters, they are always prepared to assist and save lives within our community by regularly training for the numerous scenarios that they encounter. Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Specialists and Expeditionary Firefighting and Rescue Specialists join forces with Airmen from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base to conduct a fire training exercise at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., June 21, 2018. Through Their Eyes: Combat Fitness Test Monitor

Marines assigned to Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 2 participated in their annual Combat Fitness Test at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., Sept. 20, 2017. A CFT monitor’s responsibility is to set up the course accurate to regulations and ensure the integrity of the performances throughout the evaluation. The purpose of the CFT is to evaluate a Marines’ strength, stamina, agility and coordination during three simulated combat events. MWHS-2 is assigned to 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing.
