Meet the Firefighter. Firefighters and emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) respond to all sorts of life-threatening and precarious situations, from fighting fires in suburbia to water rescues on the Neuse river, they answer the call to whomever may be in need. Cherry Point Fire and emergency Services (CPF&ES) are here to provide aid to Marines, Sailors and civilian residents of Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point from whatever mishaps arise, night or day. But everyone needs some downtime. Getting the chance to step away from the fight and prepare themselves to save more lives is crucial in their work. Fighting fires and rescuing kittens from trees is probably what comes to mind when envisioning what firefighters do from day to day, but it is certainly not all. Minus the kitten, our firefighters with Cherry Point Fire & Emergency Services at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, North Carolina, answer the call to an array of emergency situations. From technical rescues, which include rescues from confined spaces and high angle structures, to water rescues, vehicle incidents, chemical leaks and spills, trapped elevators with people inside, assisting the community during and after natural disasters, providing emergency medical services, and of course structure fires and other miscellaneous fires – they’ve got us covered. With all that is required of our firefighters, they are always prepared to assist and save lives within our community by regularly training for the numerous scenarios that they encounter. Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Specialists and Expeditionary Firefighting and Rescue Specialists join forces with Airmen from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base to conduct a fire training exercise at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., June 21, 2018.
