Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., hosts its 18th annual Christmas Tree Lighting, Dec. 8, 2017. Due to inclement weather, Cherry Point community members celebrated the MCCS-managed festivities indoors with hot chocolate, cookies, performances by the United Service Organization’s Show Troupe and a viewing of a Christmas-themed movie. Chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear defense specialists conduct a training exercise with Marines assigned to explosive ordnance disposal company at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., Aug. 25, 2017. The exercise improved expeditionary readiness by allowing both entities to work cohesively and use their specific skills to achieve a common goal of mission accomplishment. Marine Wing Communication Squadron 28 conducts a live-fire training exercise aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune N.C., Apr. 18, 2017. Marines assigned to the squadron conducted the training in order to familiarize themselves with the M240B medium machine gun and maintain unit readiness. During the training Marines fired unknown distance, conducted weapon malfunction drills and refreshed their knowledge on what techniques maintain the weapon system and keeps it functioning. MWCS-28 is assigned to Marine Air Control Group 28, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing.

Marines and their family members enjoy the second annual Easter Eggstravaganza aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., April 8, 2017. 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing and MCAS Cherry Point Family Readiness Officers along with Marine Corps Community Services hosted the event to allow service members and their families an Easter-themed day of fun with free food and drinks. Children were given the opportunity to participate in an Easter egg hunt, take photos with the Easter bunny, play in bounce houses and complete a tactical bunny course. Marine Corps Community Services Cherry Point hosted the Battle Challenge on Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., March 23-24, 2017. Teams assigned to various units on MCAS Cherry Point signed up to compete against each other in the timed event. The challenge included an obstacle course where competitors had to climb a cargo net, jump over a seven-foot wall, negotiate monkey-bars, carry 45 pound jugs, and drag a 200 pound dummy to the finish line. The Exceptional Family Member Program hosted Making Waves, a pool event for families that have children with special medical or educational needs aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., Feb. 3, 2017. Making Waves gave families the opportunity to let loose and have a fun day at the pool. Activities included a ring toss, rafting, floating lessons and a family free swim. The event tested Marines in a variety of events such as rifle assembly and disassembly, ultimate football, Humvee push, pugil sticks and grappling.
