A stream in the process of being restored in the Grant’s Landing residential housing area, filters water that runs off into the Neuse River at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, North Carolina, July 29, 2015. The Environmental Affairs Department (EAD) responded to concrete lined ditched carrying contaminants to the Neuse River by removing the concrete ditches, restoring the natural curves in the streamline. They put down coconut fiber matting to give the banks steadiness for the planted shrubbery, grasslands and trees to filter water from the storm drains before making it to the streamline.

The stream aides in reducing the amount of contaminants polluting the river. The Neuse River has been enduring devastating conditions for more than 40 years from man-made contaminants, pollution and animal waste.

Huber, the Commanding Officer of Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, and hosts during the scholarship and assistance award program at MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina June 3, 2021. The scholarships are fully merit based awards. Applicants were evaluated on GPA, resumes show casing volunteer work in their community and leadership qualities, as well as essays submitted by the applicants expanding on their experiences with resiliency and adapting to the pandemic impacted school year.
