MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. (Nov. 10, 2010) -- The 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing commanding general, Maj. Gen. Jon M. Davis, led his Marines on a run to celebrate the Marine Corps birthday aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., Nov. 10.
The annual event is held to foster esprit de corps among the various units of 2nd MAW through a cherished Corps tradition- the formation run. Hundreds of Marines took to the streets of Cherry Point, sporting their green running suits and singing motivational cadences in unison. The Marines proudly carried the Marine Corps and respective unit color for more than three miles on the run.
At the end of the run, Davis explained the significance of the event.
“Happy birthday Marines!” he began. “Remember always the legacy of valor and excellence that those Marine who went before us set for us. Let all of us rededicate ourselves to raise that bar for future generations of Marines. That’s what I was thinking about on this run, that’s what I think of every single day. Each and every one of you has done your part to make this wing and this Corps better. I’m immensely proud of you.”
