Job Title: LAAD gunner/ team leader

Unit: 2nd LAAD

Hometown: Middlesex, N.J.

Date Joined: May 26, 2008

What’s your job?

My job is to provide bases and convoys with low altitude air defense protection against enemy aircraft and to provide security convoy security.

What’s your favorite aspect of your job?

My favorite thing about my job is the multiple things we do from the infantry side of patrolling to our main mission of the LAAD protection.

What’s the most challenging part?

The hardest part of my job is that we jump a lot from LAAD to infantry security and sometimes you forget little things about one or the other.

How does your job support the mission of 2nd MAW and MCAS Cherry Point?

While deployed with 2nd MAW units, it is our job to provide security for bases, convoys and patrols, whether that is through LAAD protection or being put on a foot patrol to help with security.

How does your job differ from garrison to the field?

Here in garrison we are training in our primary job of LAAD, and the main thing we do while in the field or deployed is train or conduct security operations for the mission at hand in Afghanistan.
