MOS: Religious program specialist

UNIT: Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron

AGE: 21

WHAT IS YOUR JOB?

I protect my Chaplain and clergy. I help out and assist with any religious activity and services. For example I help out with setting up Catholic mass, funerals, wedding and memorial services. I help with any religious activities on shore or at sea.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE ASPECT OF YOUR JOB?

It’s pretty laid back and I love to help others. It is really interesting learning about different religions from around the world.

WHAT’S THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF YOUR JOB?

The funerals and memorial service, due to the fact that it’s my fellow Marines and Sailors. They pass away and it’s sad. It’s sad and during the services we can not show emotion we can not cry.

HOW DOES YOUR JOB SUPPORT THE MISSION OF 2ND MAW AND MCAS CHERRY POINT?

We provide the people of this base a person to talk to when they don’t want to speak with their command. We also give them a place where they can come to get away when they need to.

HOW DOES YOUR JOB IN GARRISON DIFFER FROM YOUR JOB IN THE FIELD?

I do the same things I would do in the field as I do in garrison. The difference is we are like bodyguards for our Chaplain. We carry the weapons and help out were we can but it is our top priority to protect our Chaplain.
