Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina hosts their 244th Marine Corps Birthday Ball in New Bern, North Carolina, Nov. 9, 2019. The birthday ball is a time-honored tradition, celebrating the history of the Marine Corps. Founded Nov. 10, 1775, in Tun Tavern, the Marine Corps continues to adapt to any adversary or challenge. Typical events at a Marine Corps birthday ball include watching the commandant’s birthday message, the reading of Gen. John A. Lejeune’s birthday message, a cake cutting ceremony and remarks from the ball’s guest of honor. This year’s guest of honor was Brig. Gen. Eric Austin, the deputy director of joint training for the Joint Staff J7.
