H&HS Commanding Officer
Lieutenant Colonel Julian Flores

LtCol Flores completed Officer Candidate School via the Platoon Leaders Course in 2001.  He graduated from Texas A&M University and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in December 2001.

Upon graduation from The Basic School in November 2002, 2ndLt Flores completed Aviation Preflight Indoctrination (API) at NAS Pensacola, FL followed by Primary Flight Training at NAS Corpus Christi, Texas.  After being selected for jet training, he completed Intermediate and Advanced flight training at NAS Kingsville, TX flying the T-45A Goshawk.  1stLt Flores was designated a Naval Aviator in May 2005 and selected EA-6B Prowlers.
In August 2006, Capt Flores reported to Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 1 (VMAQ-1) at MCAS Cherry Point, NC.  During his tour, he deployed twice to Al Asad Air Base, Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. 

In June 2010, Capt Flores reported to VAQ-129 for duty as an EA-6B Instructor Pilot.  While there he performed duties as NATOPS Program Manager, NATOPS Evaluator and EA-6B Standardization Officer.  

In February 2013, Maj Flores returned to MCAS Cherry Point to help lead the transition of VMAQ-1 to VMAQT-1, establishing the Banshees as the Marine Corps’ premier EA-6B training squadron. While there he served as the Director of Training and Operations Officer. 

In March 2015, Maj Flores reported to VMAQ-3.  During this tour he deployed to MCAS Iwakuni, Japan as part of the Unit Deployment Program and graduated from the Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) Course 2-16, at MCAS Yuma, AZ. 

In May 2016, Maj Flores received orders to Marine Aviation Training Systems Site (MATSS), Cherry Point.  While serving as the MATSS OIC, he augmented VMAQ-3 during a combat deployment to Incirlik Air Base, Turkey in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE. 

In May 2017, Major Flores reported to VMAQ-2 to serve as the Executive Officer. During his tour, he deployed to Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE and Operation FREEDOM’S SENTINEL.  

After the sundown of the EA-6B Prowler and the deactivation of VMAQ-2 in May of 2019, LtCol Flores received orders to H&HS MCAS Cherry Point.  LtCol Flores assumed command of H&HS Cherry Point in June 2020. 

LtCol Flores has accumulated over 3,300 mishap free flight hours and personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal-Strike/Flight (Numeral 22), and the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Gold Star in lieu of third award).
