Major Gil is a native of California. He graduated from Texas A&M University in December 2014, earning a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Distribution and his commission in the Marine Corps. Second Lieutenant Gil reported to active duty in May 2015 at The Basic School in Quantico, VA. In December 2015, he began Naval Flight Training, earning his Naval Aviator wings in October 2017.
In November of 2017, First Lieutenant Gil reported to the MV-22 Fleet Replacement Squadron, VMMT-204, for training as a MV-22B Osprey pilot.
Following his training in June 2018, First Lieutenant Gil checked into VMM-165 at MCAS Miramar, CA. In October 2018, he deployed to Kuwait with VMM-165 as part of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force – Crisis Response – Central Command 19.1 in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. In May 2020, Captain Gil was designated a Tiltrotor Aircraft Commander. In August 2021, he deployed again with VMM-165 (REIN) as part of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Throughout his time at VMM-165, Captain Gil served as the Squadron Adjutant, Current Operations Officer, Flight Equipment Officer-in-Charge (OIC), Ordnance OIC, and Airframes Division OIC, earning MV-22 qualification as a Division Leader, Reduced Visibility Landing Instructor, and Low Altitude Tactics Instructor.
In August 2022, Captain Gil reported to H&HS, MCAS Cherry Point. He was designated as a UC-35D Transport Second Pilot in January 2023 and as a UC-35D Transport Aircraft Commander in April 2024. Major Gil has served as the HQHQRON S-4 Officer-in-Charge, the Pilot Training Officer, Assistant Operations Officer, the Maintenance Technical Point-of-Contact, and the Operations Officer.
Major Gil’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Gold Stars in lieu of third award), National Defense Service Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.
