Maj Moritz was commissioned a Marine Second Lieutenant upon graduation from Purdue University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering Technology. After completing The Basic School, he reported to NAS Pensacola, FL followed by Whiting Field for flight training. First Lieutenant Moritz was designated a Naval Aviator upon completion of Advanced jet training at NAS Meridian, MS on 25 June 2004. He then reported to Fleet Replacement Squadron training at Fighter Attack Squadron 106 aboard Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia.
In November 2005, 1stLt Moritz became a “Crusader” with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 122 onboard Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina. During his time as a Crusader, Capt Moritz deployed to the Western Pacific in support of the Unit Deployment Program. He served as the Classified Material Control Custodian, and Schedules Officer. Captain Moritz then deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan as part of Combined Joint Task Force 82 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. Upon his return from Afghanistan Capt Moritz joined the “Thunderbolts” of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 251 where he served as a Schedules Officer and Future Operations Officer.
n February 2009, Capt Moritz joined the “Eagles” of Training Squadron SEVEN aboard Naval Air Station Meridian, Mississippi as a flight instructor where he served as the Public Affairs Officer, and as the Standardization Officer for Instructors Under Training, Tactical Formation, Out of Control Flight, and Air Combat Maneuvering. In addition, he served as the Training Air Wing ONE Marine Corps Martial Arts Program Martial Arts Instructor.
In the summer of 2012, Major Moritz returned to Marine Aircraft Group 31 aboard Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina where he deployed with II Marine Expeditionary Force (FWD) to Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. Major Moritz served as the Close Air Support planner and deputy Personnel Recovery Coordinator within the Fires and Effects Coordination Cell for Regional Command Southwest.
Major Moritz deployed once again to the Western Pacific in support of the Unit Deployment Program where he joined the “Bengals” of Marine All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 224 and served as the squadron Operations Officer and Director of Safety and Standardization.
In August 2015, Major Moritz transferred to 2d Marine Aircraft Wing aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina where he served in the G-3 as the Training Officer, and Ranges 2030 Project Officer. During his tour with 2d MAW, Major Moritz deployed to Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar serving as a Strategic Planner at the Combined Air Operations Center in support of operations INHERENT RESOLVE, FREEDOM’S SENTINEL, and RESOLUTE SUPPORT.
In June 2018, Major Moritz reported to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron to serve as the Executive Officer.
Major Moritz’ personal awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (gold star, 2nd award), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
