DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. -- Servicemembers from the 94th Airlift Wing Security Forces Squadron were selected to perform the retreat ceremony Aug. 6 held at the flagstaff in front of building 838.

Retreat is a military ceremony that serves to pay respect to the American flag and signal the end of the duty day.

Units from Dobbins are selected by the wing to perform the ceremony each unit training assembly, said Master Sgt. Scott LaFlamme, 94th SFS superintendent.

A flag detail, consisting of two halyards, a detail commander and rear guard, thoroughly rehearsed procedures for performing the intricate ceremony before the 4 p.m. start.

Lasting no more than five minutes, the four-man flag detail began the ceremony with uniform precision by lowering and removing the flag, folding it into approximately 13 triangular folds and presenting the flag to vice commander Richard Kemble from the 94th Airlift Wing. Wing leadership and security forces members were present to witness the ceremony.

"The retreat ceremony is a time-honored tradition that security forces is proud to be a part of," said LaFlamme.
