At the start of the fiscal year, Oct. 1, 2021, the Marine Corps officially introduced its new ARQ. This new course of fire will require Marines to be more independent and self-aware of the mission. It will also include the use of barricades, and focus on positional shooting, providing a more realistic way to train. U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Shane Ryan, a range coach on Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point describes how coaches and their instruction impact the Marine Corps’ and individual Marines warfighting capabilities, June 29, 2021. The range coaches under-go a three week course that teaches them, everything from the fundamentals of handling and firing a service rifle and pistol, to understanding physics and factors that effect a Marines shot. Upon graduation of the course, coaches return to their parent command to teach and mentor their fellow Marines on proper and efficient marksmanship skills. Marines stationed at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, North Carolina, participated in the Regional East Marksmanship Competition at Marine Corps Base (MCB) Quantico, Virginia. The Marines trained on the Cherry Point pistol and rifle range for two weeks before traveling to MCB Quantico. During the competition, the Marines were evaluated on their speed, efficiency, and accuracy with the service pistol and rifle. Those who qualified at the Regional East Marksmanship Competition would move on to complete at the final Marine Corps Marksmanship Competition where the best participants would place and receive awards and medals. Sgt. Sean Cain was the only Marine from Cherry Point to place and medal in both competitions. Any Marines who are interested in competing should contact the MCAS Cherry Point team lead, Sgt. Marine Aircraft Group 26 held their first Kids Corps event to give the kids of MAG-26 an opportunity to see what their parents do, in the Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 162 hangar aboard Marine Corps Air Station New River, N.C., June 4, 2016. Kids were split-up into squads and were afforded the opportunity to compete against each other in a modified Combat Fitness Test, the bouncy house obstacle course and witness an MV-22 Osprey fly.
