MACS-2 Tests New AN/TPS-80 Aviation Radar System During Training Exercise

Marines assigned to Marine Air Control Squadron 2 test the capabilities of the new AN/TPS-80 aviation radar system during a field exercise at Marine Corps Outlying Field Atlantic, August 1, 2017. There are only two AN/TPS-80 [G/ATOR] radar systems actively used within the United States Marine Corps today. The new system produces 3D radar imagery and has improved tracking and detection capabilities. The G/ATOR can be deployed and operational within 30 minutes of assembly, besting the previous system by over an hour. A mobile training team educates 24 II Marine Expeditionary Force Marines on the basics of operating a semi-trailer refueler truck during a month-long course at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., May 1-24, 2017. The instructors, based out of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., travel to various bases to give semi-trailer refueler classes. As the only site on the East Coast that offers Marine Corps pilots field carrier landing practice, the airfield is essential to improving expeditionary mission readiness by training pilots to land on aircraft carriers. The airfield consists of runways constructed from aluminum panels, which can be disassembled and reconstructed anywhere in the world to meet the needs of the Marine Corps. MWSS 274 Maintains Readiness by Conducting Field Op

Marines with Marine Wing Support Squadron 274 participated in a field exercise aboard Marine Corps Outlying Field Camp Davis, N.C., Sept. 22, 2016. Support squadrons across the Marine Corps often conduct these exercises to remain ready for any challenge they may face in forward deployed environments. This exercise featured events such as auxiliary airfield construction, ground security and airfield damage repair. The squadron's capabilities contribute to 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing's role in the Marine Air Ground Task Force's mission accomplishment.
