U.S. Marines and civilians across Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point came together to participate in various volunteer opportunities on and around the installation during the Single Marine Programs eighth annual “Days of Service” events, Cherry Point, North Carolina, April 18-22, 2022. U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. James L. Robertson, MCAS Cherry Point sergeant major, and Jocelyn Jakubowski, installation volunteer coordinator with Marine Corps Community Services, MCAS Cherry Point, thank volunteers for their hard work and encourage anyone who is interested in volunteering to reach out to learn more about the opportunities available. The Single Marine Program (SMP) is currently finishing up their annual Days of Service event, April 22-28, 2019. The event allows Marines, Sailors and civilians to come together and give back to the community by volunteering at numerous events, both on base and in the local community. Volunteer opportunities include, but are not limited to, building for Habitat for Humanity, assisting at animal shelters, beach clean-ups and veteran visits. SMP participants are encouraged to build partnerships with local community organizations to create opportunities and strengthen bonds between Marines, Sailors and local civilians. All commands and personnel are invited to participate, with the emphasis on allowing single Marines and Sailors the opportunity to contribute to this initiative. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Cpl. The Single Marine Program (SMP) offers a variety of volunteer opportunities including assisting with the local Habitat for Humanity. The mission of Habitat for Humanity is to provide affordable and safe housing to families in need and to put people in homes that may not otherwise qualify for homes. The SMP offers the chance to work with organizations like Habitat for Humanity to support the local community. The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society hosted its annual banquet to recognize volunteers for their hours spent taking care of Marines and Sailors aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., Feb. 9, 2017.
