U.S. Marines with Marine Wing Support Squadron 271, 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion and the Office of Naval Research participated in joint training at Marine Corps Outlying Landing Field Oak Grove, Feb. 28 - March 3, 2022. At the start of the training, the Marines created damage, such as craters and spalls, across the airfield to simulate destruction caused by unexploded ordinance (UXO). Together, the Marines and Office of Naval Research evaluated if their unmanned aircraft systems could scan the airfield and assess the damage quicker and more efficiently than ground personnel. Marines assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron 271, Marine Aircraft Group 14, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing conducted a two-week field training exercise aboard Marine Corps Auxiliary Landing Field Bogue, Nov. 28 – Dec. 1, 2016. The training focused on integrating Marines across several military occupational specialties and evaluated their performance in the simulated deployed environment. Evaluating Marines expeditionary capabilities during training operations allows units to assess their Marines readiness and strengthen the basic building blocks used to expand their knowledge and capabilities. Marines with Marine Wing Support Squadron 271’s Engineer Company participated in a cantonment and capabilities field exercise at Marine Corps Auxiliary Landing Field Bogue, Dec. 9, 2015, to practice and improve their job skills while in a deployed environment.
