Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point Images

Sep 17, 2011

The glass cover of a PL-87 Stinger Missile shatters as the missile is fired off at an unmanned aerial target by a Marine with 2nd Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion on Onslow Beach aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., during 2nd LAAD's live Stinger Missile shoot Sept. 17. “This training provides the Marine Corps with qualified Stinger Missile gunners,” said Master Sgt. Joshua J. Hillbrand, operations chief for 2nd LAAD Bn. “This training allows the Marines to complete their annual training requirements and allows some gunners who haven’t fired in years to fire a live missile.”
