Third grade students from Graham A. Barden Elementary School in Havelock presented their collectively created artwork commemorating African American artist, Aaron Douglas, June 7. The efforts of the third graders resulted in a mural representing the work of a Harlem Renaissance artist, their community, and the significant role the military plays within society. (The painting is on display in the foyer of the Marine Corps Exchange.)::r::::n::“The kids were just so happy to have their artwork on public display,” said Linnea A. Mckenney, the students art teacher.
