Marines assigned to Marine Air Control Squadron 2 and personnel from Program Executive Officer Land Systems cut a ribbon, unveiling new radar systems aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., June 28, 2017. MACS-2 showcased the Common Aviation Command and Control System; AN/TPS-80 Ground/Air Task Oriented Radar; and Composite Tracking Network, and how they integrate with one another. The new equipment will provide faster and more accurate data than previous equipment which will allow Marine Air-Ground Task Force commanders to maintain better situational awareness, improving their decision ability. Maj. Gen. Matthew Glavy (right) speaks about Capt. Craig Nygaard after awarding Nygaard the Air Medal at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., June 26, 2017. Nygaard was awarded this medal for operations conducted during Operation Inherent Resolve while assigned to Marine Attack Squadron 231, Marine Aircraft Group 14, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. While forward deployed, Nygaard volunteered to return home early in order to deploy with a detachment from Marine Attack Squadron 542, MAG -14, 2nd MAW in support of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s mission. Gunnery Sgt. The race included a low crawl to a rifle where one Marine would disassemble the rifle and crawl back. Then the next Marine would crawl and reassemble the weapon. Alongside the events, MAG-29 conducted classes and guided discussions to assist Marines with identifying and preparing to mitigate upcoming risk during the summer months.
