As the Combined Federal Campaign nears its end, the Marines,
Sailors and federal government employees at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry
Point, N.C., continue to give graciously.
Every year, thousands of service members and federal
civilian employees donate to a variety of charities through the CFC.
The CFC is an annual charity drive targeted at federal
employees. It allows participants to give to thousands of charitable organizations
through a single charity campaign. The initiative was designed for federal
personnel to have the opportunity to give back to their communities.
“The CFC is great because it is an easy way to reach out to
people,” said Chief Warrant Officer 4 Brook R. Kelsey, CFC officer for the 2nd
Marine Aircraft Wing. “I’ll admit, it takes time and commitment for the CFC
representatives to meet our goal of 100 percent contact and present the forms
and guide donors through the CFC book, but the work is worth it.”
According to Kelsey, the reason why the CFC is so important
is because it’s the single point for all organizations who are seeking federal
government sponsorship for their causes. It allows the charitable organization
to reach a broader audience.
“The CFC benefits everyone involved,” said Kelsey. “The
charitable organizations receive more donations, and the federal employees get
a better knowledge of what charities are out there for them to donate to.”
The United States is one of the most charitable countries in
the world, said Kelsey. That is why the Combined Federal Campaign is so
important – it’s the federal employee’s opportunity to contribute and be a
small part of that.
“The CFC is my opportunity to give back to the community
that gives so much to us as service members,” said Master Gunnery Sgt. Chad
Antes, maintenance administration chief with the Aviation Logistics Division.
According to Antes, he decided to give to the CFC as a way
to help children and families who are struggling.
“It makes me happy knowing that my donations are going to
support people who are really benefitting from these charities,” said Antes.
“It is worth it to me to give if I know it is going toward a good cause.”
Dec. 15 will mark the conclusion of the 2014 CFC. For more
