HAVELOCK, N.C. (OCT. 16, 2010) -- Sgt. Lance C. Risley, left, a P-19 firetruck operator and a Cherry Point aircraft rescue firefighter, helps Yaliya Shubina try on equipment worn by the firefighters.
The Marines took part in the festivities at Havelock’s 29th annual Chili Festival at Walter B. Jones Park in Havelock this past weekend to help raise awareness about the air station.
The aircraft rescue firefighters brought one of the station’s neon-yellow P-19 firetrucks along with equipment to show to the public – or in case the chili got too hot.
“I wanted to see if it was uncomfortable and heavy,” Shubina said of the equipment. “Definitely felt like it would be hard to work in.”
“Events like this allow the community to see the assets we have,” said Risley, a P-19 operator and a Cherry Point aircraft rescue firefighter.
