Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point -- Col. Douglas A. Denn, commanding officer of Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, speaks at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand opening of the Exceptional Family Member Program playground, here April 29. The new playground is designed to allow special needs children to have greater accessibility and for wounded warriors to play with their children. It has a wheelchair accessible swing, two infant-toddler swings and wheelchair accessible ramps to the elevated areas of the playground. The playground is part of a $10 million effort to improve access for people with special needs at 39 military installations, and this one is one of the firsts. Located in front of Lawson Village, the playground is open from dawn to dusk with parental supervision and is free to all families.
