U.S. Marine Corps Col. Mikel Huber, commanding officer of Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, thanked the community for their diligent work in making the 2021 MCAS Cherry Point Air Show a success during an event at Miller’s Landing, MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina, Dec. 15, 2021.

During the meeting, Huber highlighted the combined efforts of the installation staff, volunteers, and community sponsors that made for an award-winning air show.

“The efforts of everybody coming together to do what was an absolutely phenomenal two days” Huber said. “It was absolutely an honor to be a part of the evolution of that fantastic air show.”

Because of the work ethic of all involved, the installation was awarded not one, but three separate awards for the air show. Cherry Point took home the 2021 Pinnacle Platinum Award, 2021 Dick Schram Memorial Community Relations Award, and 2021 Blue Angels Military Air Show of the Year. Officials believe this is the first time all three were presented to a single installation.

“It shows how important the community is to the base,” said Will Lewis, Mayor of Havelock. “Getting the air show here, that’s important. It’s impactful.”
