With the coronavirus (COVID-19) remaining undeniably present, the Marine Warrior Library is still determined to ensure that its patrons at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, have the literary and electronic resources they need during these difficult times.
Since its reopening, the library has added multiple COVID-19 safety precautions to make sure everyone still has a safe and enjoyable visit. It has reduced the total building capacity to 45, closed off t...he children’s play area and has limited its hours of operation to help control the daily amount of foot traffic in the library. The library’s new hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and noon to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.
The library continues to provide most of the same resources for our active duty military and their families, but with a little bit of a twist. Story time is posted on their website every Wednesday along with corresponding take-home art projects, allowing them to participate while practicing social distancing. 3D printing, material check-outs, scanning and faxing, as well as computer lab services are all still available. Once the materials are returned, they are sanitized and then kept in a 72 hour quarantine room before they are able to be handled again.
For patrons searching for virtual services, the Navy Morale, Welfare and Recreation Digital Library is available around-the-clock for patrons that have internet access at home. Visitors can check out electronic or audio books and participate in this year’s Summer Reading Program for an opportunity to win prizes based on the points they accrue from reading.
