Marines and North Carolina Girl Scouts gather for a photo in front of more than 7,000 boxes of cookies May 13 inside the Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 2 supply building during the Girl Scouts’ annual Operation Cookie Drop. Operation Cookie Drop is a program in which local Girl Scouts deliver cookies to military personnel from Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, Fort Bragg and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. Captain Michael Cortes volunteered to assist the Coastal Women's Shelter raise awareness of domestic violence during the shelter’s annual 5k, June 21. Marines volunteered through the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point Single Marine Program, encouraging runners to finish the race and providing them water along the course. The CWS provides services to domestic abuse victims including moral support, places to live and resources for healing their relationships.
