MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. -- Non-military affiliated renters are now able to occupy homes in the Slocum Village Neighborhood effective immediately at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C.
“In order to maintain the necessary funding to fulfill our mission during times of low occupancy, the Department of the Navy and Atlantic Marine Corps Communities have the ability to offer housing to other select tenant groups, including this new category,” said Staci Murphy, the marketing coordinator with Lendlease, AMCC’s parent company.
Previously, the homes in the Slocum housing community were offered to active-duty and reserve military members, contractors, geo-bachelors, retirees, DOD civilians, and surviving military spouses. With recent changes, civilians with no military background can also rent homes in the community.
“Our first priority is, and always will be taking care of the service members and their families here at Cherry Point, but we are equally excited to welcome all renters into our community and invite them to make their home with us,” said Hilary Hawkins, the project director for AMCC.
There are more than 50 homes being made available to new renters, according to Murphy.
To occupy homes, non-active duty occupants are required to have a background check. In addition, a security deposit is required and based on the applicants credit score.
AMCC’s Slocum Village is scheduled to host an open house Dec. 10, from 3 to 7 p.m.
