Lines of people, floats, antique cars and hand-made vehicles formed-up to show their appreciation to veterans and active duty service members during the 2015 Carteret County Veteran’s Day Parade in Morehead City, N.C., Nov. 7, 2015.

Personnel attending and participating in the parade ranged from service members from Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point to local civilians and World War II veterans, who all gathered together to celebrate and give thanks to the armed forces.

“This parade connects us with the public and gives us support for not only our mission at Cherry Point, but for the Marine Corps as a whole,” said Lance Cpl. Heath Coy, a refrigeration and air conditioner technician with Marine Air Support Squadron 1 and a participant in the parade.

The Marines who participated exhibited their vehicles and performed musical selections during the 21st annual parade.

“We take pride in what we do and show our appreciation for all of the veterans,” said Coy. “It’s always nice to show everyone what we as Marines have to offer.”

Veteran’s Day is significant in the lives of the Marines and the work that they do, said 1st Lt. Joshua C. Adams, the motor transportation platoon commander for Marine Wing Support Squadron 274 and parade participant. The parade helped open the Marines eyes to show them how the public sees the military within the local community.

“Participating in this parade demonstrated what the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing has to offer on the ground side, and shows that we as Marines are very versatile and can do more than just flying or fighting on the ground,” said Adams.

Marines operated Humvees, MK28 Logistics Vehicle Systems and seven-ton trucks during the parade, exhibiting them to the public.

“The Marines had a good time and saw more about what the public thinks about the military,” said Adams. “This parade shows us how much they appreciate the military and the service we provide.”
