Marines, Sailors and their families filled a temporary venue outside the Roadhouse here during a free concert featuring the band Sevendust at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., Oct. 16.

Cherry Point’s Marine Corps Community Services hosted the event and provided free food, drinks and entertainment for the concert goers.

It was not the first time Sevendust has played at military installation.

“We have been everywhere,” said Lajon Witherspoon, lead singer for the band. “From Afghanistan to Iraq, you name it, we’ve been there.”

According to Witherspoon, the band's favorite part of performing at military installations is entertaining the service members in the audience.

“I look out into a sea of young men and women and it gives me chills,” said Witherspoon, a native of Atlanta. “It’s like looking into a crowd full of brothers and sisters.”

Many in the crowd were excited to hear the band perform.

“I was extremely excited when I found out that Sevendust was going to be playing,” said Lance Cpl. Nickolass Rouse, an avionics technician with Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 14. “They are one of my all time favorite bands.”

Rouse was one of the more than 200 service members in the crowd for the night’s event.

“I had an awesome time,” said Rouse, a native of Outer Banks, N.C. “I hope that MCCS does more events like this in the future. Whenever I come out, I always have a great time.”
