Command Biographies
H&HS Executive Officer
Lieutenant Commander Ugochukwu M. Nwosu

Lieutenant Commander Ugo Nwosu is a native of Lagos, Nigeria.  He graduated from Air Force Secondary School, Ikeja in 1999.  He moved to the United States in September 2001 and initially attended Savannah State University; he transferred to Bowling Green State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Allied Health-Chemistry minor in December 2005.  He graduated with an Industrial Hygiene Master of Science in August 2010 from University of Toledo and then enlisted into the U.S. Air Force in October 2010.

After completing Basic Military Training at Lackland Air Force Base, he reported to San Angelo Air Force Base for Intelligence technical training. Airman First Class Nwosu completed intelligence training, then he was assigned to the First Fighter Wing at Langley Air Force Base. He supported F-22 Raptor operations until he was selected to the Army National Guard as an Environmental Science and Engineering Officer (72D). 

After completing Army Basic Officer Leadership Course (BOLC), he reported to C MED, 329th BSB in Charlottesville Virginia as the Preventive Medicine Officer in Charge in April 2012. He was subsequently recruited by the U.S. Navy Medical Service Corps to become an Active-Duty Industrial Hygiene Officer. He reported to Rhode Island in April 2014 for Officer Development School to start his Naval career and graduated in May 2014. 

Lieutenant Junior Grade (LTJG) Nwosu reported to Navy Environmental Preventive Medical Unit - TWO at Norfolk, Virginia in May 2014, where he served as a junior Industrial Hygiene Officer and deployed to Jebel Ali, Fujairah, and Isa Air base in support of operational forces.

In May 2015, LTJG Nwosu reported to USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75), where he served as Division Officer (DIVO) for the Safety Department.  As DIVO, he qualified Surface Warfare Medical Department Officer and completed an 8-month Operation Inherent Resolve deployment. 

Lieutenant (LT) Nwosu reported to Chemical Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF) in December 2017, where he served as Science Officer for IRF Alpha platoon.  LT Nwosu was selected and served as CBIRF’s Assistant Operations Officer (S-3A) then earned the Fleet Marine Force Officer and Expeditionary Warfare Officer qualifications.

In February 2020, LT Nwosu reported to Naval Hospital Rota, Spain and served as the Department Head – Industrial Hygiene, Emergency Management Officer, Executive Facilitator, and alternate Command Safety Manager. He was a critical player in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and in support for relocation of 2,483 Operation Allies Refuge evacuees as Interim-Director of Public Health. 

Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) Nwosu reported to Marine Air Station Cherry Point in March 2023 where he serves as Deputy Director Safety and Standardization, Installation Medical Liaison Officer, and OIC Operational Stress Control and Response as a Human Factors Analyst. Currently, he serves as the first ever-Navy Executive Officer, Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron.

LCDR Nwosu’s decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3), Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal (2), Military Outstanding Volunteer, and several campaign medals and unit awards.
