Command Biographies
H&HS Commanding Officer
Lieutenant Colonel Tyler E. Burnham

Lieutenant Colonel Burnham grew up in University Place, Washington.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves in 2000 as a heavy equipment operator, based at Fort Lewis, WA. LtCol Burnham graduated from Central Washington University in 2004, earning his commission as a Second Lieutenant. After completion of The Basic School and Naval Flight Training, he reported to Aviation Training Unit, Cherry Point, NC for KC-130J Super Hercules training.

1stLt Burnham completed KC-130J training in 2007 and reported to the VMGR-152 “Sumos,” where he served in various assignments and deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom in 2009.   

In May 2011, Capt Burnham reported to 5th ANGLICO for duties as a forward air controller and deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom from November 2011 through June 2012.  

In July 2012, Capt Burnham reported to VMGR-252 “Otis,” where he served as the Aviation Safety Officer.  In July 2014, Capt Burnham deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom with VMGR-252 Detachment Alpha, serving as the detachment Director of Safety and Standardization. Upon return, Capt Burnham attended Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course 2-14.
 
Capt Burnham returned to VMGR-252 where he served as the Assistant Aviation Maintenance Officer.  In January 2015, Capt Burnham deployed with VMGR-252 to SPMAGTF-CR-AF and served as the detachment Operations Officer and WTI. He was promoted to Major during this deployment. 

Upon return, Maj Burnham reported to Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, VA, where he graduated with distinction in June of 2016 with a Master of Military Studies.

In July of 2016, Maj Burnham reported to Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One as a KC-130 instructor pilot. From June 2017 to July 2018, Maj Burnham served as the Director of Safety and Standardization. 

In July of 2018, Maj Burnham reported to the KC-130J Fleet Replacement Detachment, as the Executive Officer, KC-130J NATOPS Program Manager, and KC-130J Crew Resource Management Program Manager.

From June of 2020 to September 2021, LtCol Burnham served as the Executive Officer of VMGR-252. Following that assignment, LtCol Burnham was temporarily assigned to MAG-14 prior to checking in with H&HS Cherry Point in Feb 2022.

LtCol Burnham’s decorations include the Air Medal-Strike/Flight (Numeral 12), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Silver Star in lieu of sixth award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Gold Star in lieu of second award), Combat Action Ribbon, and various unit and campaign awards.
