Cherry Point's Enlisted Spouses Club awarded three dependents with scholarships to further their education during a ceremony June 20 at Miller's Landing here. The awardees can use the scholarships for tuition, books and schools supplies. Captain Michael Cortes volunteered to assist the Coastal Women's Shelter raise awareness of domestic violence during the shelter’s annual 5k, June 21. Marines volunteered through the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point Single Marine Program, encouraging runners to finish the race and providing them water along the course. The CWS provides services to domestic abuse victims including moral support, places to live and resources for healing their relationships.
