Hundreds of Marines, Sailors and their family members enjoyed an evening of food, games and entertainment during the Marine Air Control Group 28 annual Fall Festival at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., Oct. 23, 2014.

“I have brought my family to a lot of unit events but we love fall time, so this has definitely been one of our favorites,” said Staff Sgt. Atiya Corbett, engineer maintenance chief with Marine Air Control Squadron 2.

According to Corbett, her family enjoyed the free food and the spooky trail the most.

“I think events like this are important for unit growth and for the camaraderie of the Marines,” said Corbett. “The operational tempo can be stressful at times, and events like the fall festival offer us a chance to get together during the holiday season and shift our attention to family and friends for an evening.”

During the event, Marines and their families enjoyed several bounce houses and blow up slides. The festival featured a movie projected for attendees to watch a movie on a big screen while eating popcorn and other festival foods. Marines from the squadron put together a haunted house and haunted trail for families to enjoy as well as several games for children to win prizes.

“I really enjoy unit functions, mostly because they are family oriented and it is a time that we can interact with people we may not get to see every day,” said Cpl. Tony Teague, chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear defense specialist with MACG-28.

According to Teague, he enjoys watching his son interact and have fun with other children.

“I think events that promote unit cohesion and interaction with the entire chain of command in an environment like this plays a huge part in raising the Marines’ morale,” said Teague. “If the families are happy, and the Marines needs are being met, those two things together lead to a higher degree of unit and family readiness.”
