Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Training Squadron 1 welcomed a new sergeant major to Marine Corps Air station Cherry Point, North Carolina, July 2, 2014.

Sgt. Maj. Charles F. Wright Jr. relinquished his post at VMAQT-1 to Sgt. Maj. Jay D. Williamson during a relief and appointment ceremony here.

“Serving as the sergeant major for VMAQT-1 has been the highlight of my career,” said Wright. “I am excited about moving on to the next chapter of my life, but will miss the being around Marines.”

Upon relinquishing his post, Wright wished Williamson the best and told him to enjoy his time with the VMAQT-1Banshees.

“I’ve lead a group of hardworking, motivated Marines, who are committed to the success of the squadron,” said Wright, who plans to retire after more than 20 years of active duty service.
The squadron’s mission is to train aircrews and replacement pilots to efficiently operate the EA-6B Prowler for the Fleet Marine Force.

Williamson served as the company first sergeant for Company A, 3rd Radio Battalion before assuming his post at VMAQT-1.

“I would like to thank Sgt. Maj. Wright and his family for 24 years of service and sacrifice, also, for building a solid team within the command and setting me up for success,” said Williamson. “I look forward to the opportunity to work with a different skill set and getting to know another group of Marines.”
