As a power line mechanic with Marine Attack Squadron 542 at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., it is up to Cpl. Collin G. Coggins to ensure that all equipment is inspected, running properly and ready to go at a moment's notice.

Coggins maintains AV-8B Harrier engines, tires, fuel systems and water systems.

“All the requirements and the responsibilities that come with my job are my favorite part,” said Coggins. “We have daily inspections to ensure the aircraft are ready to fly.”

According to Coggins, the most challenging part of his job is working on the aircraft engine.

“The maintenance and replacing of the engine is hard,” said Coggins. “The whole aircraft was built around the engine which makes it really hard to get around sometimes.”

Coggins earned recognition as the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing noncommissioned officer of the quarter in March for his work ethic, love of responsibility and drive to succeed.

“I was really excited and surprised when I found out I had gotten it,” said Coggins. “I was really anxious to find out the results after the board.”
