U.S. Marines assigned to the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, volunteer through the Single Marine Program (SMP) to assist in keeping Fort Macon State Park, North Carolina, in tip top shape, Jan 23, 2019. Volunteers stacked pine trees to capture sand and build up the sand dunes, which deter visitors from destroying the habitat and cleared sand from the pier.
SMP gathers volunteers and reserves a day every two weeks to support the North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation with special projects around Fort Macon State Park to conserve the local ecosystem.
