Hours of Operation: MCAS Cherry Point Passenger Terminal operates 24 hours a day / 7 days a week, excluding major holidays*.

SPACE-A OPPORTUNITIES: Space Available flights, also known as a Space-A or military hops, are a unique privilege available to service members**, retirees and their families. Under the Space-A program, eligible passengers can fill unused seats on DoD-owned or controlled aircraft once all the space-required (duty) passengers and cargo have been accommodated.
Flights Originating or transit MCAS Cherry Point: MCAS Cherry Point does not have regularly scheduled flights. However, each week numerous aircraft originate from or transit through MCAS Cherry Point, enroute to destinations such as Andrews AFB, NAS Norfolk, Scott AFB, and Patrick AFB, just to name a few. Due to operational security and the dynamic nature of military aircraft schedules, it is not possible to list online what flights are available or projected. Contact the Passenger Terminal via phone or email for the most accurate information.

Space-A Sign Up: To sign up for Space-A flights either visit or call the Passenger Terminal to speak with the Passenger Service Representatives. You will be asked to provide the following items and information at the time of sign-up, utilizing the AMC Form 140 (Mar 99 (EF)) Space-A travel Request:
- Active Duty Military Personnel: Common Access Card (CAC) and Leave Authorization form NAVMC 3 (REV. 2-05) (EF).
- Military Reserve Personnel: Common Access Card (CAC) and DD Form 1853, Oct 1999, Verification of Reserve Status for travel Eligibility.
- Retired Personnel***: DD Form 2 (blue ID card)
- Dependents Over 10 years of age: DD Form 1173 (1173, 1173-1, 1173-1S, or 1173S), the United States Uniformed Services Identification and Privilege Card.
- Dependents Under 10 years of age: Sponsor is required to show a copy of the birth certificate to the manifesting Passenger Terminal Representative for each flight taken. A copy may be made for manifest purposes only.
- Tourist Passports: They are required for all those requesting overseas travel, with the exception of active duty members stationed overseas. NOTE: Dependents of AD military stationed overseas require passports.
Information Needed to Complete Space Available travel Request AMC Form 140:
- Name: Last, First, MI
- Rank/ Grade: E-1/ PVT or RET (Retired)
- SSN: Last 4 of SSN (optional at time of sign up but will be required at time of travel)
- Seats Required: Yourself plus who you are traveling with (+ spouse= 2 seats)travel Status (type of leave): Categories I-VI (See below or DoD 4515-13R for complete descriptions of Categories).
- Service: Check the block for appropriate branch (Leave blank if Retired)
- Date Leave Begins: (Active duty only)
- Date Leave Ends: (if extended, you must notify us before this date)
- Country Choices (List up to 5; one choice may be ALL): You may also put the 4 letter ICAO (base identifier) for an installation (ex. KSUU for travis AFB) instead of countries.
- List Names of Dependents traveling and Type of Passport (US or Foreign): Name and relation such as spouse or child. If you are traveling with a child, be sure to include their age (see dependent requirements above).
- Space A certification of information provided and understand of regulations.
- Date: Date that request was filled out and/ or submitted.
- Signature: If filled out and submitted to the Passenger Terminal Representative in person, faxed, or mailed.

NOTE 1: Active duty service members must be in a leave status to sign up for flights and remain on leave for the duration of the travel.
NOTE 2: For Retirees, sign up starts upon receipt of the request and remains in effect for 60 days or until one travels on a Space A flight through a registered terminal, whichever occurs first. When you manifested on a flight, you are removed from the waiting list. Upon your return, you may sign up again and begin another 60 day waiting period.
NOTE 3: For spouses and dependents of active duty service members, there is a new Space-A guideline, which states that when the member’s deployment is for 120 consecutive days or more you are authorized to travel Space-A, unaccompanied in Category IV.
Tips for travelers:
- MCAS Cherry Point Passenger Terminal follows TSA (transportation Security Administration)/DoD Rules and Regulations for items that may be brought onboard an aircraft and in carry-on bags. - Passengers are reminded that baggage limitations are set for 2 bags per individual, limited to 70lbs maximum weight per bag and not to exceed the dimensions of 62 linear inches. Passengers may carry up to one carry on bag and it must be able to fit under any aircraft seat or overhead compartment if available. NOTE: There are exceptions and baggage weight may be limited due to the type of aircraft (C-9 max combined weight, 2 pieces, 55lbs.) or other restrictions. Check with a Passenger Terminal Representative prior to flight.
- No open-toed shoes will be worn on any military or military-chartered aircraft. This includes sandals, pumps, heels, or flip-flops. Conservative, proper civilian attire will be worn. No profane or explicit material will be tolerated aboard any aircraft. Please remember you will be traveling with other individuals that may find your clothing to be offensive.
- Note: IAW DoD Foreign Clearance Guide and DoD 1000.21R, one cannot use a Government issued “No-Fee” passport for leisure travel unless stationed overseas or on official travel orders.
- Plan on arriving at the terminal at least 2 hours prior to the departure time of your flight (CONUS) and at least 4 hours prior for an overseas flight. Also, give yourself a little extra time to find the terminal and parking.
Eligibility: Category I: Emergency Leave, for bona fide immediate family emergencies, as determined by DoD Directive 1327.5 (ref d) for: service members (and their dependents) with emergency status indicated in leave orders and civilians, U.S. citizens, stationed overseas employees of the Uniformed Services. Category II: Environmental Morale Leave (EML) Category III: Active Duty on Ordinary Leave/ House Hunting Permissive tdY/ Medal Of Honor Holders Category IV: Unaccompanied Dependents on EML Category V: Permissive tdY (Non-House Hunting) or TAD/ Student travel/ Overseas Command-Sponsored Dependents Category VI: Retired Military/ Reserves

Remember, Space Available travel is a privilege, not an entitlement. Space A travel is a program authorizing eligible passengers to travel on DOD aircraft when seats are available. Space A travel is allowed on a nonmission interference basis only.
*Major holidays: Thanksgiving and Christmas. travelers should call the Passenger Terminal for closure updates.
**Service Members: U.S. military to include Reserve (DD Form 1853) and Guard Units with proper documentation.
***Retired Personnel: Those that have fulfilled their tour of duty to qualify for retirement (retirement check is paid by a uniformed services finance center- DFAS etc.- fray or blue ID card). Those that have been medically retired with a 100% disability rating (retirement check paid by the Veteran’s Administration- butterscotch color ID card) do not qualify to be categorized as a retiree nor are they eligible to fly Space-A travel (ref. Military Living’s Military Space-A Air travel Guide, Appendix J #25).
