MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. -- With the 2014 Combined Federal Campaign nearing the end of its second month, the need is growing for service members and Department of Defense employees to remember the many benefits they can provide to others who are less fortunate. CFC is the only DOD-sponsored fund drive for government employees – but it provides an easy opportunity to provide much-needed support to a wide range of organizations that are dedicated to helping people.
“Everyone needs to know that many of these charities rely on contributions from the entire DOD during the CFC to keep their programs operating,” said Bobbie J. Whitbeck, the CFC coordinator and human resources specialist with Cherry Point’s Civilian Manpower Office. “The campaign provides funding to various non-profit organizations, both nationally and internationally.”
According to Whitbeck, there are more than 2,400 listed national and international CFC charities that DOD personnel can support.
“Everyone working on the air station has the opportunity to donate,” said Whitbeck, a native of Newport, N.C. “Through the CFC, Marines, Sailors and civilians have a chance to lend a helping hand to someone in need.”
There are several ways to contribute to the CFC, said Whitbeck. Donations are made through a CFC representative with cash, check, online and payroll allotment.
“Our goal is 100 percent contact with all service members and employees aboard Cherry Point,” said Wayne Snell, a CFC coordinator and human resources specialist with the air station’s Civilian Manpower Office. “Everyone has a chance to participate with the wide range of charities offered through the campaign.”
According to Snell, different charities cover a variety of causes, from support for wounded veterans to research for diseases.
“The programs and charities that the CFC supports benefit everyone, so anything helps,” said Snell. “If you don’t do it for yourself, at least consider doing it for the Marines to the left and right of you, because nothing is guaranteed and you may be the one needing help one day.”
