HMH-463 supports operations in southern Afghanistan

Since arriving in early March, the CH-53D’s of Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 463 has been a familiar sight on the Afghan skyline.

Along with Afghan National Army soldiers and Marines with Company G, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment and 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment the squadron recently participated in two operations aimed at disrupting enemy activity.

HMH-463 conducted back to back operations, March 22. Walkman’s Fury was a tactical resupply mission designed to aid the Marines of 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines with their operations in southern Afghanistan. The other operation, Gold Dust II, was a troop insertion involving soldiers of the Afghan National Army and Marines with Company G, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment.
