O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree…

Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, North Carolina, is gearing up for Christmas. On Friday, Dec. 3, 2021, the air station participated in Trees for Troops, which is a program run by the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation. It’s coordinated by Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) and provides free, farm-grown Christmas trees to service members and their families. Active duty and retired service members picked up trees on a first come, first serve basis at Hancock Marina, and was facilitated by both Marine and civilian volunteers.

“Being in the military is a thankless job,” Lance Cpl Melvin Benjamin said. “This event shows that people care. A lot of us can’t go home for the holidays. We’re all family here. We take care of each other.”

The air station received 350 Christmas trees by FedEx for Trees for Troops. FedEx generously supports the program by serving as the shipping sponsor. It’s delivered more than 262,265 Christmas trees to more than 70 military bases across the U.S. and overseas. This year it’s hoping to add another 14,000 trees to that total.
