Command Biographies
CNATTU Cherry Point Commanding Officer
Lieutenant Colonel Robin J. Fonseca

Lieutenant Colonel Fonseca was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in December 2005 after graduating from the University of Utah with a degree in Spanish.

Following The Basic School he was assigned to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 14, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, NC, in November 2006 as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer.  During this tour, Second Lieutenant Fonseca served as the Aviation Life Support Systems and Individual Material Readiness List Officer.  In September 2008, he was transferred to Marine Attack Squadron 231 where he served as the Assistant Aircraft Maintenance Officer and the Maintenance/Material Control Officer.  During this time, he deployed with HMM-264(REIN) as part of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit and with VMA-231 to Kandahar, Afghanistan. 

In July 2010, he was transferred to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 13, Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, AZ, where he served as Ground Support Equipment Officer, Assistant Aircraft Maintenance Officer, Aircraft Maintenance Officer, AIRSpeed Officer, and Operations Officer.

Having been selected for the Foreign Area Officer program in June 2013, Captain Fonseca was transferred to Monterey, CA where he reported to the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) and the Defense Language Institute (DLI) earning a M.A. in Security Studies and an A.A. in French.

Upon completion of NPS and DLI in July 2015, he reported for duty at the US Embassy in Rabat, Morocco, where he completed his In-Country Training (ICT) as a Foreign Area Officer for Africa.  In August 2016, Major Fonseca reported for duty in Sigonella, Italy to be the Executive Officer of NATO Alliance Ground Surveillance Force’s Logistics Squadron.

In July 2018, Major Fonseca reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 14, and served as the Operations Officer and Executive Officer.

In July 2020, Major Fonseca reported to U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe and Africa in Stuttgart, Germany where he served in Future Operations as a regional planner and Africa Operations Section Head.

Lieutenant Colonel Fonseca assumed command of Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit Cherry Point in June 2022.  

Lieutenant Colonel Fonseca’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars.
