“I feel that this unit is well trained, I trust them with my life and I look forward to them watching over me when I’m forward with my next unit,” said Campbell, who relinquished his post as VMU-2 sergeant major Nov. 18.
Campbell will move to 2nd Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment at Camp Lejeune.
“I’ll be going from the one who provides overwatch and keeping my fellow Marines safe - to needing overwatch. I trust the Marines at VMU-2 to keep me and my future Battalion safe.”
Campbell said he wanted to be remembered by his old unit as someone who was able to teach, be it junior, senior enlisted Marines or officers.
“My goal here has been to be a conduit of the enlisted voice to the commanding officer,” said Campbell. “I wanted to ensure the Marines who were doing the right thing were given all the opportunities needed to succeed.”
Replacing Campbell was Sgt. Maj. Scott D. Grade who came from Marine Air Control Squadron 23, 4th Marine Logistics Group and 4th Marine Aircraft Wing where he acted as the site-support sergeant major.
“I’m very excited to be coming to a unit of this kind of notoriety,” said Grade. “I’m here, my family’s here and we are ready to work.”
